Pinks or Greens?

Snorky Figgles was in Boston with us within twenty-four hours of getting him home from Toys-R-Us. Over a good continental breakfast, he impressed upon me the truth of the one statement that I'd heard about all pigs: He, too, is a Foodie. Notice the big F.

Here's breakfast in Boston. Fi hasn't even started on his, and look at Figgles' plate.

Funnily, I observed something else. If you look closely at that picture, you will see that my darling Figgles is as fond of fruits as he is of, erm, orange juice and buttered toast. Apparently, even though just "a few days old", he can distinguish between his favorite and not-quite-so-favorite fruits. He loved the peach-colored melons. Methinks it is because he identified with them color-wise. He made a bit of a fuss with the green melons, though, eventually leaving them by the side of the plate. (See picture below.)

Note: The title of this post is inspired by a friend who, when she first set eyes on Figgles, squealed, exactly like Figgles does sometimes when he's excited.

sus scrofa Snorky Figgles

Reach back a little into your childhood. Do you remember playing with that favorite doll or GI Joe or teddy bear, and feeling that, when the lights went out and the world was still, your plaything came alive into a world that was more its own than the one belonging to you?

Well, that wasn't a figment of your imagination. This blog is for goings-on in the soft-toy world of sus scrofa. That's the scientific name of the pig/boar family. Of course, I only interact with a single true member of the species, but my darling little Snorky Figgles gives me an insight into the lives and loves of pigs (i.e., one piglet only), and a peek into what goes on in "Nutcracker-land" after Wee Willie Winkie runs through this town. Note: this is not Snorky Figgles' blog; this is instead a blog about Snorky Figgles written by an outsider (me) who is gradually discovering the secret world of my little pigling. Makes sense?

But first, a little bit of history.

Snorky Figgles came into my arms on the 23rd of May 2008, so, for all practical purposes, we can celebrate that as his birthday. (Yes, he is a "he", don't ask me how I know.) It's a rather surprising thing that Fi practically threw him into my arms and enticed me to carry him off, eventually earning my lifelong devotion by offering to gift Figgles to me. (Surprising because the only other soft toy gift he has unstintedly offered to make me is a long green snake. Grrrrr!!!)

Anyway, now Figgles is here, and I'm learning that pigs are a lot "wonderful-er" than I ever thought. Snorky Figgles is very smart, very very cute and very creative. And I learn new things about him all the time.

This blog is not intended to be wordy... so I'll leave you to this picture. I think it's called "Meditating... on my next meal".
